A Florist’s Guide to Wedding Flowers
A few wedding consultations are scheduled for later this week, and we’re feeling excited to be talking about our garden grown, kind & natural floral designs with new couples, which are always led by the seasons.
Whilst our brains are full with plenty of fresh inspiration, we wanted to share are a few of our top tips for wedding flowers…
✨ Find a florist you trust
This one is key, as if you can’t see the end design until the day itself, and you need to be able to trust your florist will create beautiful designs.
Build a relationship with them, look to see if the type of florals you like are visible in their portfolio, and when you get in touch, send them pictures of their own work, making sure expectations are aligned.
🌱 If you’re working to a limited budget, then focus on specific areas
Rather than spreading the cost of flowers thinly across a large space, we would always recommend focusing on a few key areas of impact. These designs could also be reused and moved from the ceremony to the reception, making the most of the flowers.
Some favourite designs of ours include wild and tumbling meadows, ‘just grown there’ arches and tablescapes filled with texture and height.
💦 Keep your flowers hydrated
We always provide water vases with our personal flowers, and advise you keep them handy throughout the day - your flowers will thank you for it. Make sure to dry the stems before you hold your flowers, as this makes sure nothing is water marked and the ribbon remains dry. You could ask one of your wedding party to put any flowers back into the vases whenever you’re not holding them.
💍 Images online are heavily edited and filtered, so may not be a realistic representation of colours
We always use colour as the foundation of any wedding flower designs, but we also find that managing a couple’s expectations might be tricky, when there are many reference images that just aren’t realistic. For this reason, we recommend you take everything you see online with a pinch of salt. And if you like the florist’s work, then use reference images from their own portfolio, so you have the opportunity to ask if they have been altered and what colours are achievable.
🍁 The easiest way to create a natural design, is to work with the seasons, rather than against them
We love to work with a fluid & organic approach, championing colour, unusual shapes and wild abundance, we allow the rhythm of seasons and the spaces our flowers interact with to dictate our designs.
